Would You Live in 1946?

The BBC news website has a fascinating little article about a 36-year-old man going to work in 2014. When he gets home, however, he lives in 1946.

His house is a living museum of post-war England, and includes several amenities which most people today would find uncomfortable to use, such as an outdoor toilet!

Answers:

1. The heart of the house is the Victorian range, built in the 1890s.
2. He is cabin crew with BA (British Airways)
3. The master bedroom has older furniture than the Art Deco décor of the guest bedroom. This, the man explains, is because “in the 30s, visitors used the best room, the front room,” but “in the upstairs bedroom, where visitors wouldn’t see, you have all the hand me downs.”
4. He admits having a modern fridge in his kitchen!
5. He is trying to hold on to some of the old world charms of [the post-war] period.
