To indulge or not to Indulge….
Never has there been a more difficult question! Lent is one of the most testing times, a time of year when people decide to give up something they love. It could be anything; chocolate, fast food, alcohol, sugar, even swearing.
An annual Christian tradition which comes before Easter, Lent falls on different dates each year. For many, the day begins on Ash Wednesday and is a way to repent and wash away sins.
There are many different theories and beliefs behind the origins and the dates of Lent – one popular belief is that it signifies the 40 hours Jesus was in his tomb before rising again, whilst another pays homage to the six weeks he apparently spent fasting.
Whatever the reasons behind the tradition, one thing is certain – plenty of people take part and many choose to sacrifice one of their favourite vices for a few weeks. And it’s much easier said than done. Just try it!
While some people decide to return to their vices after Lent finishes, others decide to turn over a new leaf and continue what they started. No more sugar, no more, swearing, no more fast food…. are you that strong?
