Taking Part in a Pub Quiz
Back in the day, before everyone had Google on their mobile phone, general knowledge was something to be proud of and those who were able to tell you off the top of their head the capital of Burma or who performed the first human heart transplant were held in high regard. Today however, there is still a way to show off your knowledge – by getting yourself along to one of Britain’s best-loved institutions – The Pub Quiz.
It’s believed that pub quizzes began back in the late 1970s by UK business Burns and Porter. Originally intended as individual events, the idea grew fast and it’s now estimated that over 22,000 quizzes take place in Great Britain each week!
The concept is simple: Round up some friends, choose an amusing team name (‘Ken Dodd’s Dad’s Dog’s Dead’ and ‘Quizie Rascals’ are two of our favourites) and pit your wits against your opponents!
There’s usually a number of categories including History, Music, Geography and TV & Film so there really is something for everyone. So if you’re feeling brainy, get yourself over to the UK for a short break and set up a team! Just remember, keep your phones in your pockets and no cheating…
