From time to time the tricky topic of film sequels that are better than the original gets brought up and the answers put forward depends on who you are talking too.
Such a topic is completely subjective and opinions change over time. However, there are a couple of films that we have decided to stand by!
When The Godfather was released in 1974, it was (quite rightly) regarded as a piece of cinematic genius. But then, just two years later, The Godfather Part II – starring both Al Pacino and Robert De Niro – came alone and blew its socks off. The less said about The Godfather Part III, however, the better.
As far as modern day trilogies go, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy takes some beating. All three films were commercial and critical successes. But the fact the latter two brought in over USD 1 bln each at the box office, compared to Batman Begins’ USD 374 mln, tells you all you need to know.
When it comes to our last choice, there’s no question that Terminator 2: Judgment Day is better than its predecessor. By the time it was released in 1991, both Schwarzenegger’s lead character and Sarah Connor were household names. But it was Edward Furlong playing 10-year-old John Connor who really stole the show and earned him an array of awards for his ability and skill.
As the good man Arnie says, “I’ll be back!”
