Classic Comedy
If there’s one thing us Brits are renowned for, it’s our bizarre and unique sense of humour.
We’ve looked at some classic British sitcoms in the past here in this blog, but this week I’ve watched a number of episodes of one of the all-time greats and a personal favourite of mine ‘Auf Wiedersehen, Pet’. The programme, initially broadcast in 1983, featured a number of UK migrant construction workers sent to work on a building site located in the German city of Dusseldorf.
As well as providing plenty of laughs, it looked at the relationship between the tradesmen and also gave an insight into the grim political climate at the time.
A number of followup series were made (located in Spain, Australia and Cuba) but none quite lived up to the original. As is so often the case.
I’m just about to stick on another couple of episodes before bed and if it’s anything like last night, the neighbours will be banging on the walls again, shouting at me to keep the laughing down.
